Trust Me here and now. You are in rigorous training- on an adventurous trail designed for you alone. This path is not of your choosing, but it is My way for you. I am doing things you can’t understand. That is why I say, “Trust Me!” Taken from Jesus Today by Sarah Young.
These words struck a chord in my heart from the moment I first read them. Here I am roughly six months later about to start a brand new adventure with God! I want to share with you the events leading up to this new adventure, in order to showcase how God works in and through the smallest and biggest events of our lives. God has been teaching me so much during the years I waited patiently for Him to show me His way for me.
To showcase God’s power I want to start from the hardest chapter of my story. This was a very difficult time in my life. I found myself in an abusive relationship, desperate for help. I decided one night to cry out to God for help. I did not think anything would happen but He was my only chance for any type of relief. To my pleasant surprise, God not only heard my cry He also helped me out of the pit I was in. Part of His help was found in an amazing Christian Counselor.
Through Godly counsel, I found His healing and restoration from all of the abuse and trauma I endured for years. At my last counseling session in the fall of 2011 I shared with my counselor the desire I had to help other women find God’s love like I had. This is when my counselor suggested listening to a CD she had about the injustice of sex-trafficking. She told me I would really be able to relate with what I would hear. The lady speaking on the CD was training a group of counselors going overseas to counsel women who are victims of such a horrific crime. Everything the lady was suggesting to do to help these women was something my counselor had done to help me. The pain, hurt, and scars of these women were indeed very similar to mine.
After listening to that CD, I prayed and waited for God to show me what He wanted me to do with all I had just learned. The Praying Aunties Network was an answer to my prayers. This network of women prays for children in India who have been rescued from trafficking or rescued from brothels where their mothers work. I had no idea what God was going to do, but He used each and every prayer to open my heart to going to India.
In 2013 I went on a “life-confirming” mission’s trip to India with the Praying Aunties Network. I say, life confirming, because it was in India that God first opened my eyes to see all He is doing in the lives of so many women rescued from abuse and trauma and confirmed He wants me to be a part of His work.
In India, I witnessed God’s beauty from ashes. I never thought that what I suffered through all those pain filled years would later be used to help others who find themselves in similar or worse situations. Only God can do a thing like that!
When returning from India, Isaiah 58:12 jumped out to me while spending quiet time with the Lord. The verse says, “Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.”
Through many prayers, a sermon at church, and a fellow believer in Christ, God confirmed to me I am to be a “Restorer of Streets with Dwellings”. With a clear vision of the desire God has placed in my heart, I started to pray. I asked God to show me how He wanted me to join in bringing His restoration to the most broken places.
During this time, a dear friend shared with me information about the Foundations in Counseling Ministry (FCM) school in Amsterdam, through Youth With A Mission (YWAM). I am confident this was an answer to my prayers after reading the following on their website: “Do you want to help people be restored to wholeness? Are you called to mend hearts for God?” My heart quickly responded, “YES, Lord! That is exactly what I want to do!”
You may be wondering “Why Amsterdam”? So was I! In my mind the streets God was calling me to were found in India, but I desire to follow God wherever He leads. After researching Amsterdam and the area I will be staying, I know exactly why God chose for me to spend time among the streets of Amsterdam.
The location of the base I will be staying at is in close proximity to the Red Light District. There are incredible outreach programs already in place to come alongside the men and women working in the Red Light District. I believe this experience will be valuable in helping me understand and become more educated in the injustice of sex-trafficking.
I am beyond excited to follow God where He is leading. I know and trust that His way for me is going to be better than anything I can ever think or imagine. I cannot wait to share with you all God does in and through this new adventure with Him.
For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10
With His love and mine,
